Paintings in oil by Linda Lucas Hardy - The original title of this blog was, "Little Gems From Triple "A" Gallery". I decided to change the name.
About me...
- Linda Lucas Hardy
- I decided to change the name of my blog from “Little Gems” to ‘travels to the edge’. Why not? There’s more security being on the edge than there is walking a tightrope, wouldn’t you say? So being on the edge is where I am and where I plan to stay. You may wonder what that has to do with anything. If you do not know for the last 17 years I’ve been working in colored pencil & I’ve been very successful. I actually thrived on the control I got from a pencil, so getting used to a brush proved challenging. But I wanted to paint & that meant leaving my comfort zone & my area of expertise. Some say it’s good when you do that but I must admit, for a while, I was on shaky ground. Nevertheless I’d made up my mind &I was determined. I’ve been painting now since January & I’m relaxing more every day. I’m learning what works but especially what does not work. I hate dumb mistakes but I’ve found them to be excellent teachers. Anyway, everything in art is a challenge because it’s basically problem solving. We don’t ever have all the problems solved no matter what medium we work in. It sure can make life interesting though when you move away from the one you know the most about.

I noticed in your profile you are from Texas..me too. I teach in Denton,TX...small world!
I noticed you were from Texas but had no idea you were so close. Well I consider three hours close. I live in the far NE corner..about 45 miles West of Texarkana in a little town of 1000 people. But I'm in Plano every Tuesday. I've been teaching a colored pencil class at a Hobby Lobby there for four years.
I'm scheduled to do a demo for Visual Arts Society of Texas next year. Are you familiar with the VAST? It won't be until the end of the year though.
Anyway, thanks so much for your comment. I really appreciate it. I'm still on unsure ground when it comes to oil painting but I've got a few months before I start teaching workshops again so I'm going to paint as much as I can in the meantime. If I can love it as much as I love colored pencil I may switch mediums...I'll have to love it a lot though.
Again I enjoy your work so much. Your subject matter is different as well as your compositions and you are very much a realist. I really like what you do.

Yes, I am familiar with VAST. I am currently not a member, but I know several people involved. I may have to join in the coming year and attend your workshop. Your colored pencil techniques floored me! I clicked on your webpage and...WOW! Really amazing work!
